Digital nomads
Since December 2025, Bulgaria offers a dedicated residence route for digital nomads – non-EU nationals who work remotely using information technologies for employers or clients outside Bulgaria. It combines EU residence with one of the lowest costs of living in Europe and the euro, which Bulgaria adopted on 1 January 2026.

Tax residence generally follows from spending more than 183 days in Bulgaria within 12 months, or from having your centre of vital interests here. Bulgaria has a 10% flat personal income tax; we recommend confirming your position with a tax adviser.
